Set up by Dr Iain Wilkinson and Dr Jo Preston, the MDTea started with an interest in podcasts and the power of story telling for learning and has grown into a suite of resources for those health and social care professionals that are lucky enough to work with older people. The MDTea is funded by Health Education England (KSS) and supported by a truly multi-professional faculty.
Meet our faculty here!
We are passionate about looking after older adults and believe it is important for all healthcare professionals to have the skills to look after older adults wherever they may present to the healthcare system.
Where are we now?
There are now over 100 episodes each exploring a single topic related to the care of older people, with over 250 thousand downloads. The episodes aim to provide an overview for a professional audience and our CPD log enables them to record their learning.
More recently we have had help in making the series from our Teaching Fellows. This year we have two Teaching Fellows who are helping us create series 11 of the podcast, along with supporting and developing educational opportunities for all members of the multidisciplinary team in the department.
Future Developments
- We have developed a mini series of episodes available here providing guides for non-geriatricians looking after older adults.
- As series 11 develops we are working on a series of complimentary resources.
- We are looking to evaluate the use of podcasts as a supplementary learning too for health and social care staff
